令和7年度 卒業生?修了生への式辞

ご卒業、ご修了、誠におめでとうございます。

今日ここに集った皆さんは、時代の大きなうねりの中で学び、悩み、自らを律し、そしてこの日を迎えました。
そのひたむきな歩みに、本学を代表して心からの祝意を表します。
いま、私たちが生きる世界は、AI、量子、バイオ、宇宙など、あらゆる分野で目覚ましい進歩を遂げ、人類が長い時をかけて積み重ねてきた「知の総和」が、まるで未来を追い越すかのような速度で展開されています。
この加速度的な変化の中で、いまほど「人間とは何か」「人間らしさの本質はどこにあるのか」が厳しく問われている時代はありません。
AIが文章を綴り、芸術を生み、精緻な診断を下し、さらには人間の意思を先回りする。こうした時代にあって、私たち人間にしかできないこととは、いったい何でしょうか。
それは――「不完全さを抱えたまま、感じ、決断し、行動すること」です。
他者の痛みに涙を流し、誰かの幸せをよろこぶことができる心。
「なぜ」と問い、「どう生きるか」と葛藤する力。
答えのない問いを、それでもなお引き受け続ける強さ。
AIが導き出す「最適解」が、必ずしも人間にとっての「幸福」とは限らないことを、私たちは知っています。
本当の希望は、ただ感じているだけでは生まれません。
感じたことを胸に、その結果に責任を持つ覚悟を持って、一歩を踏み出す勇気の中にこそ宿ります。
正義に心が震えたなら、立ち上がってください。
理不尽に怒りを覚えたなら、その声を社会の糧にしてください。
誰かの苦しみに涙を流したなら、迷わずその手を差し伸べてください。
あなたのその小さな「決断」が、世界に光を灯します。それはやがて、分断された社会を繋ぐ希望となり、未来を照らす確かな道しるべとなるはずです。
これこそが、人間の尊厳であり、人類の未来そのものなのです。
皆さんがこの大学で学んできたことは、専門的な知識や技術だけではないはずです。仲間と語り合い、時には激しくぶつかり、孤独や挫折を味わいながら、「生きるということ」の輪郭をなぞってきたことでしょう。
その経験の一つひとつが、皆さんの中に深い根を下ろし、揺るぎない知性の土壌となっています。
だからこそ、私は皆さんに未来を託したい。
世界は今、混迷のただ中にあります。気候危機、価値観の衝突、そして人と人との繋がりの希薄化。人間が人間であることの意味が、あらためて試されています。
「総合知」という名の羅針盤を携えてください。
本学は、半導体、量子、水素、蓄電といった、国家の未来を支える先端科学において世界と伍する成果をあげてきました。
同時に、サイバーセキュリティや経済安全保障といった新たな難問にも挑み続けています。しかし、技術が鋭利であればあるほど、それを正しく導く「哲学」という鞘が必要になります。
歴史、倫理、教育、経済、法、そして国際文化。本学が誇る人文社会系の深い知見は、技術に魂を吹き込み、社会の暴走を食い止める「知の防波堤」です。この「理の鋭さ」と「文の深さ」が交差する「総合知」を生きる力として、複雑で予測困難な世界を切り拓いていってください。
どんなに時代が進化しても、「ひとりの人間として、どうあるべきか」を問い続ける勇気を捨てないでください。決してひとりで抱え込まず、誰かの言葉に耳を傾け、誰かの手を取ることを忘れないでください。
これから皆さんは、世界のさまざまな場所へ旅立っていきます。
どうか、人間らしく、誇り高く。そして優しく、強く生きてください。
その姿こそが、停滞する未来を動かす力となります。

最後に、これだけは伝えておきます。
「あなたの存在そのものが、この世界への最高の贈り物です」
どうか、どこにいても、自分自身というかけがえのない存在を慈しんでください。
皆さんの歩む道が、希望と尊厳に満ちたものであることを心より願い、私の式辞といたします。

Message to Graduating Students 2026

Congratulations on graduating and completing your university studies.

I am very glad that you are all here today to celebrate your graduation and completion after pursuing your studies, facing and overcoming your concerns, and getting control of yourselves in a time of social upheavals.

On behalf of Yokohama National University, I offer my deepest respect to each of you for the untiring dedication and perseverance that you have made so far.

Now, we are living in a world where dramatic progress has been made in various fields, such as AI, quantum physics, biotechnology, and space, and where the “collective wisdom” accumulated by human beings over a long period of time is being utilized and expanded at a speed that overtakes the future.

With such accelerating changes, there is never been a time when we need to seriously think about “what a human is” and “what the essence of humanity is.”

In an era when AI writes sentences, creates art, makes precise diagnoses and even anticipates humans’ needs, what is that only humans can do?

The answer is “humans can feel, decide, and act while embracing imperfections.” Humans have the spirit to understand and shed tears over the pain of others and to be delighted with someone’s happiness.

Humans have the ability to ask the question “why” and agonize over “how to live,” and have the strength to continue to think about questions without answers. We know that the “optimal solutions” derived by AI do not always mean “happiness” for humans.

Real hope cannot be generated merely by feeling something. True hope can only be found when you keep in mind what you have felt, are prepared to take responsibility for results, and have the courage to take a step forward.
If you are deeply moved by justice, please rise up. If you feel angry at injustice, please use the anger for the benefit of society. If you shed tears over the suffering of someone, please don’t hesitate to offer your help for the person.

Such a small decision you make will bring light to the world. The decision will eventually turn to hope that reconnects divided societies and a guiding light for the future. This is human dignity and the future of humanity itself.

What you have studied at the university is not just specialized knowledge and skills. I believe that you have learned the meaning of life by talking and sometimes clashing with your peers, and by experiencing loneliness and frustrations. Each and every experience you had here has taken deep roots in yourself and become a foundation of solid intelligence. That is why I would like to entrust the future to you.

Today, the world is in the midst of turbulent times, such as the climate crisis, clashes of values, the weakening of human relations. What it means to be human is now being tested.
Use “convergence knowledge” as a compass. Yokohama National University has achieved world-class results in advanced scientific fields that support the future of this country, including semiconductors, quantum, hydrogen, and energy storage. At the same time, we have continued to take on new challenges, such as cyber security and economic security. However, the more cutting-edge technology is, the more important philosophy is, which serves as a guide for the correct use of such technology.

The deep knowledge in humanities and social sciences Yokohama National University is proud of —including history, ethics, education, economics, law, and international culture—plays a critical role as a “bulwark of knowledge,” which breathes life into technology and stops society from running out of control. With “convergence knowledge,” which combines cutting-edge science and deep humanities, as power to live, please open the way to the future in this complex and unpredictable world.

No matter how much time progresses, don’t lose the courage to continue to question “what it means to be a human being.” Don’t take it on yourself, listen to someone’s words, and get help from someone. Please keep this in mind. You are embarking on the next journey of your life. Wherever you are in the world, please live with dignity and pride and with kindness and strength. That attitude will become the power to change a stagnant future.

In closing, I would like to say, “Your very existence is the greatest gift to the world.” Wherever you are, please love and cherish yourself because you are absolutely invaluable.
I will end my remarks by wishing you all the very best in your future endeavors and sincerely hoping that your journey ahead is filled with hope and dignity. Congratulations once again.
