Formation of the Quantum Internet Task Force (QITF)

Yokohama National University announces the establishment of the Quantum Internet Task Force as a consortium, following its voluntary organization in May 2019. QITF will be Japan’s premiere organization for research and development of the Quantum Internet, which is the indispensable infrastructure for computer networks in the coming quantum-based era.
The Quantum Internet is a system that has quantum signal relay functions and aims to distribute quantum data stably over a wide area. Researchers have discovered critical applications, such as Internet-like distributed quantum computation, improved communication security, secure delegated computation, more precise clock synchronization, and higher resolution of long base-line interferometry. ,As the general-purpose communication infrastructure for quantum data, the Quantum Internet is predicted to become an indispensable element of our social infrastructure for technology’s quantum transformation and the blossoming of a new quantum-based society.
Founding members of QITF include researchers from (in alphabetical order) Hokkaido University, International Christian University, Keio University, Mercari, Inc., National Institute of Informatics, National Institute of Information and Communications Technology, Nihon University, Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University, Osaka University, The University of Tokyo, Waseda University, and Yokohama National University. (some organizations’ contracts are in progress.)

Prof. Rodney Van Meter heads the consortium office at Keio University’s Shonan Fujisawa Campus.
